Middlesbrough Zine Festival THIS SUNDAY JULY 4TH!
As part of Peg Powler Presents: ZINE, a four week residency at We Are Open Pop-Up Studio focused on DIY books n comics aka zines, a day filled with informal workshops, ongoing activities, art, talks and fun this SUNDAY JULY 4th 10am -6pm
Location: 9 Newport Road, Boro (near bus station, Jessops, Debennans)
A celebration of local zine culture and creativity, and an introduction to the world of DIY publishing. Zines, art, workshops, spoken word and more.
Workshops:
11.00 Making a zine! We look at some zines and how to make one without perishing.
12.00 Bad Art versus Zine. How to create an art zine - whether or not you think you can draw. A fun, informal arty adventure.
3.30pm - Making a Fanzine. Following on from Rob Nichols' Q and A we look at fanzines and how whatever you like can make for a great zine
Spoken Word:
11.30 Writer and actor/comedian James Harris will perform a brief reading from the acclaimed local humour zine The Story of Grass and answer your questions of zines and zinery.
3pm - Rob Nichols, the creator and publisher of award winning boro fanzine Fly Me to The Moon and a maker of zines on sport, music and humour for 20 years will perform a reading then answer questions of the perils and peaks of DIY publishing.

Activities:
Throughout the day there will be super informal ways to get involved including collaborative zine making, drawing wall and more. Plus bring your own food for our picnic table.
